Thanks to our generous donors, the Community of the Good Shepherd Adult Day Program has been able to help one very grateful family. A recent high school graduate (who we will call Sam), was only 18 when he was asked if he wanted to remain in school (some students can remain in the school district until they reach 21) or if he wanted to graduate. Without a full understanding of the consequences, Sam said he wanted to graduate but was not prepared with the necessary support or training needed for him to join a sheltered workshop or supervised employment. While Sam qualifies for state funding, it normally take several months to get the necessary approvals. In the meantime, his mom, a single mother trying to complete her college education, was not be able to care for Sam during the day and continue her studies. Because of your contributions, our Day Program was able to take Sam into our program while waiting for funding approvals, giving his mom to someone to care for Sam during the day while she was at school Sam has adjusted well to his new routine and loves the Day Program. And his mom is on track to complete her degree in December. A win - win for all! |
